Bergamo, Lomardy, Italy -- July 2006 -- Another view of the tower rising above the grand staircase. Once Bergamo had nearly 200 towers. This one was originally lower than its present 160 feet height. Its base has 12 foot walls, suitable for a prison and dungeon which it once was. Today an elevator has eliminated the 300 step climb to the top.
