Zagreb, Croatia -- When the Ottomans no longer threatened, Zagreb could look to improve its quality of life in the 17th century. Town defenses came down and, in their space, rose monasteries and schools. Three religious orders were invited in including the Poor Clares in the northeast corner of the Upper Town's triangle.
